How To Bring Out The Greatness In You

March 5, 2018

New opportunities are like beacon stars, which draw people from different places towards it. People move to different unknown places to find happiness, success, and most of all to make a good fortune for their selves. Leaving home and identity, while hoping to find a new identity is never an easy thing to do.

Home is the place of unfiltered experiences, thoughts, and understanding. When you move to other places to find your way into the world, an immense struggle often ensues to fill this void. Leaving your home means you want to find a better place with more benefits, protection, and freedom but moving is not always a bright sun of opportunity, sometimes it brings out the bitterness of life and loss. However, the determination and struggle pave the way through the uncertainty of life.

There are many reasons why people have to leave their country and go to another country. Some move to another country to find better education and some move to another country to find good jobs. The way of life is not easy for some people as they expected it to be. Immigrants have to pay many sacrifices throughout their lives. They have to work long hours for money, and they have to leave their family and friends behind. Some people even have to work day and night to get the money they need, and some even get

sick while working; they do not quit their work but they work very hard to live their life.

Being an immigrant is not an easy way to live well and have a better life. It is not always easy for them to reconcile their way of people with the culture of the country they have migrated to. Furthermore, it is never a walk on flowers

or a piece of cake. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a life-changing experience for me. I have never been that successful, well settled and stabilized in my life.

About me

My name is Sonia, I was born in June of the year 1974 AD, and this is my life story of struggles and success. It is also a story of the ups and downs of my

life as I moved to be the successful person I am today, something that I am very proud of.

I was born in France, but France is not the homeland of my parents. They were born in Tunisia and then migrated to France in 1968 AD for a better life. It was the time when the Second World War had ended. Even though the war ended a couple of decades before, the damage France got was so great to be recovered from in a short time. The major cities of France were heavily damaged due to this worldwide conflict. There was a huge loss of resources and priceless human lives that was beyond repair.

France was still recovering from the Second World War and its aftermath and my family found it as an opportunity to upgrade their and their children’s life. Besides, their actions were also in favor of rebuilding France after Second World War.

My parents arrived France with their four kids; I wasn’t born yet. They migrated because there seemed to be some windows of opportunity opened for my family to get a better lifestyle and secure a better future for their children. But migration has never been an easy thing for any family. Migration is the much easier thing said than done. Being an immigrant in a country comes with a lot of challenges.

As my parents came to France from Tunisia, they didn’t have any jobs in their new country; they were jobless. But they had to feed their family. They know it was hard for them to settle down in this new place and country as there were many odds against them. My parents and their four children were living hand to mouth as they were living a new life. They knew it was not going to be a walk in the park and they had to work hard to provide themselves a good lifestyle.

They got some jobs with very low salary, so my family had to suffer a lot because of it. But they didn’t lose hope because hope is the only thing that can pull you up from situations like this, hope for a better life, hope for a better life for your family and loved ones, hope for your better future and hope for happiness.

When my parents moved to France they had four children, they would later get five more children, and I was one of them. When I was born, it was not so long after my parents had moved to France. I saw my family suffering from the start as soon as I got consciousness. I have seen my family live with many problems and this was not a good sight to see. Seeing my family suffering due to low budget and all that problems, I was determined from my early childhood to be a better person and help my family to get a better life and a better status in society.

But the String of problems weren’t yet to be over. At the very start, my parents were suffering due to lack of jobs. But in this chaos, my father, his name is Mohamed, was able to get a job but that job was not good enough for our family and my mom, Mabrouka didn’t succeed in getting a job. A lot of problems were closing their grips on us. The situation got worse with the alcoholic habit of my father. His habit was so worse that he couldn’t stop the

habit. The condition got worse, and my father started to spend all of his time and money on this forbidden habit.

Every time my father got paid from his low salary job, he didn’t come home. He spent his time drinking alcohol and wasting all the money. He used to return home after wasting all of the money in just a couple of days with nothing for his family. My family back then suffered hunger and all of the broken hopes. It was a desperate time for us to even hope for the good days

but I never stopped believing in God, and He didn’t disappoint me.

I am very happy that I got good and supportive siblings. When I was younger, my elder sister, Tourkia helped me by paying my school fees. I was six years old back then, but still, that was a very kind gesture from her, and I owe her for this kindness. As we were immigrants, there was the biggest problem to face; it was communication. I didn’t know the French language at all; it was very hard for me to communicate and convey my messages to others. My family speaks their native language at home, so it was a bit difficult to adapt to the new language. Also, I was an average student at school. Not knowing the language added more problems to my situation. I had no knowledge of the language or the French culture, not even a bit. All habits of Tunisian people were not compatible with the new French culture.

As being the average student, I had to work hard for the better grades at

school, but my efforts were not easing up the situation. I was not good in class and also not impressive at exams. This was a really bad thing to have. At the age of 15 due to average grades, I was demoted to a special class for average students. I was enrolled in accounting due to my bad grades.

My mother was very tough; she had seen a lot of troubles and problems in her life, and that made her a strong woman. She was very eager to give her

children the best she could. She gave us strict education at home to cope with the harshness of life. And I have to say; her struggles didn’t go in vain. I was not the blessed child from the start. I was very shy around people. At the age of five, I was struck with a very bad fever that lasted a year. This health condition didn’t help me, rather it held me back.

My family wasn’t the perfect family every one dreams of. My brother had a serious health condition; he was schizophrenic. Schizophrenia is a mental

disorder characterized by abnormal social behavior and failure to understand what is real. Common symptoms include false beliefs, unclear or confused thinking, and hearing voices that others do not, reduced social engagement and emotional expression, and a lack of motivation. I was very afraid of his condition. I was very afraid while returning home from school every single day. Every day I used to come home after 7 pm, just because of my brothers and sisters.

As I said earlier, my mother was a tough woman. She was used to making all the decisions in the house. She was the dominant one in the house. While my father was always the silent one as he wasn’t interested in his family that much. My mother wasn’t a literate, and she wasn’t in good in math either. On Saturday mornings, she would wake me up to accompany her to the market where I used to help her do the little calculations.

My parents were always fighting due to my father’s alcoholic habit. I used to see them fighting every day, and that fueled my motivation to be a better person the more. I promised myself to be strong for my family and myself. Due to my father’s bad habits, our family was always struggling for money. We were living from hand to mouth in those days. And one of the promises I

made to myself was to work hard and live a life of financial freedom when I grew up.

I figured out that having hope alone wasn’t all I needed to accomplish my dreams, so I started to believe in myself. As I started believing more in myself, I got more motivated to do the things I wouldn’t have done ordinarily. My life started changing for the better and my result started getting better

day by day.

At the age of 15, I was enrolled in a finance class when I met a teacher who helped me in achieving better grades. Due to the words of encouragement from this my teacher, I started to have trust in myself and believe in myself and my determinations. I started passing my exams with astonishing grades. I became confident and less shy. After studying accounting for ten years, I was able to get a master’s degree in accounting.

Upon bagging a master’s degree in accounting, my goals weren’t very far from being achieved. My life got better and better from then on. Fortunately, I soon got a good job at a firm as an accountant, which I was very for. At that time, I looked back in retrospect and found that all of my hard work, my hopes, my belief in God and universe had turned into something fruitful. But I never stopped working hard.

I started as an accountant and then became the CEO, CFO and at last a

member of the board. I was very happy to have achieved that feat as I never it could be possible. My new positions came with a lot of perks, including financial benefits. I had enough for myself and others; I remembered how I used to work with old people at night to pay for my studies, and I could help but to be grateful.

I wasn’t an attractive girl when I was younger; I was average. But now I am a strong and intelligent as well as a beautiful and determined woman, all thanks to my hard work and positive hope.

I discovered that there are many people out there today who are still struggling to achieve their goals, and they are the people I am writing to. I want to inspire them and let them know that with determination, perseverance, and hard work, they can achieve anything they set to achieve

in life. This eBook is my own contribution to helping people come out of the dungeon of hopelessness and bring out the greatness within them. Read on!
